How to organize your X (Twitter) bookmarks

The average heavy X user has hundreds of bookmarks and zero ways to find anything in them. Here's every real option, with the trade-offs.

Why bookmarks rot

X's bookmarks are a single, flat, reverse-chronological list. There's no full-text search worth the name, no tags, and folders are locked behind Premium — and even then you have to file each save by hand, forever. So the list grows, the good stuff sinks, and the moment of inspiration that made you hit “save” is gone by the time you scroll past it again.

Option 1 — X Premium folders (manual)

If you pay for Premium, you can create bookmark folders and sort new saves as you go. It works if your backlog is small and your discipline is large. In practice almost nobody back-files hundreds of old bookmarks by hand, and folders can't answer questions like “what did I save about pricing?” — they only answer “what did I remember to file under Pricing?”

Option 2 — export and spreadsheet

You can request your X data archive, dig out the bookmarks file, and build a spreadsheet or Notion database. You get search and tags, but the export is a snapshot: it's stale the day after you download it, links lose their context, and you become the unpaid librarian of your own feed. Most people do this exactly once.

Option 3 — let AI read and sort them (automatic)

The newer approach: sync your bookmarks continuously and let AI do the organizing. IdeaCoach does this with a Chrome extension — it pulls your X bookmarks in, categorizes every save by theme automatically, summarizes each one, and makes the whole pile searchable and chattable (“what did I save about cold outreach?”). No filing, no exports, and it stays current as you keep bookmarking.

The difference in kind: folders organize where things live; AI organizes what things mean. When the goal is actually using what you saved — not just storing it — meaning wins.

Which should you pick?

  • Under ~50 saves, highly disciplined: Premium folders are fine.
  • One-time archaeology project: the export + spreadsheet route works once.
  • Hundreds of saves, want them working for you: automatic AI organization is the only approach that survives contact with a real feed.
